In short

A body care routine comes down to three steps: a lukewarm shower with a gentle shower cream, a scrub on wet skin once a week (twice at most), then body cream right after the shower, on slightly damp skin. Hands and feet, which dry out faster, each get their own cream. For normal to dry skin.

Updated on 17 October 2026

FromGermany.ma designed this routine for comfortable skin without spending an hour on it. It takes the idea of social-media "shower routines" back to basics: one product to wash, one to exfoliate, one to moisturise. The core is a Weleda shower cream plus a Dove scrub and body cream; each step also offers a more indulgent version (Rituals, Weleda) and a budget-friendly Balea option as alternatives.

The key moment is stepping out of the shower: applied to slightly damp skin, cream helps hold in the water it has just received. In Morocco, the dry air inland, the sun and often-hard tap water make this daily step even more useful. Hands and feet, more exposed, have their own optional products.

In what order: shower, scrub, cream?

The order follows the skin's logic: wash, exfoliate clean wet skin, rinse, then moisturise while the skin is still damp. The scrub comes once a week only; on other days, go straight from shower to cream.

Body scrub: how and how often?

Once a week is enough for most skin; twice at most for normal skin. The harder the scrub, the less often it should be done. On olive or dark skin, scrub gently: a harsh scrub can leave darker marks, the American Academy of Dermatology points out.

  • In the shower, wash first with the shower cream.
  • On wet skin, use a little scrub for each area.
  • Massage in small circles, without pressing, focusing on elbows, knees and heels.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.
  • Moisturise straight away: a scrub dries the skin if no cream follows.
  • No scrub on irritated or broken skin, skin waxed that day, or sunburnt skin.

Moisturise right after the shower

It is the heart of any body moisturising routine and dermatologists' most consistent advice for dry skin: apply cream within minutes of the shower, on skin patted dry but still a little damp. The cream then helps keep water in the skin instead of letting it evaporate.

As for texture: a light lotion sinks in fast and suits summer or normal skin; a rich cream suits dry skin and winter better. The areas that feel tightest — shins, elbows, knees — can get a second layer at night.

Hands and feet

These are the areas that dry out fastest: hands because we wash them often, feet because of heat, sandals and dry floors. Urea is a classic ingredient in creams for very dry skin: 5% in the hand cream, 10% in the foot cream suggested for very dry feet, according to the packaging. For elbows and rough patches, Weleda Skin Food goes on in small amounts, wherever the skin needs it.

At night, a generous layer of foot cream, then cotton socks for the night: that is also what the maker of the intensive foot cream suggests. Once a week, after the scrub, the foot mask takes over. If a crack bleeds or won't close, ask a doctor or pharmacist.

Dry skin: what to change

The routine suits dry skin as it is; a few tweaks make it more comfortable, especially in winter and with air conditioning.

  • Short, lukewarm showers, with shower cream rather than a foaming gel.
  • Scrub once a week only, and gently.
  • Rich cream, or Weleda Hydrating lotion, also designed for very dry skin (step 3 alternative), morning and night on tight areas.
  • Pat dry, never rub.
  • Skin that itches, reddens or peels despite these habits deserves a doctor's or pharmacist's opinion.

What about the hammam?

The hammam, with its black soap and glove scrub, already exfoliates deeply. In the week you go, skip the scrub at home: keep the shower cream and the body cream, applied as you come out, on still warm, damp skin. To recreate the full ritual at home, step by step, follow our "Moroccan hammam at home" routine.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best body care routine?

The one you'll stick to: a lukewarm shower with a gentle product every day, a scrub once a week, and body cream right after every shower. Add hands and feet if your skin is dry.

What is the right shower routine?

Lukewarm water, five to ten minutes, a gentle shower cream, then pat dry and apply body cream straight away. Add the scrub once a week, after washing.

What's the best way to moisturise your body after a shower?

Pat yourself dry without rubbing, and apply cream within minutes, on still slightly damp skin. Focus on shins, elbows and knees.

How do you do a body scrub?

In the shower, after washing: scrub on wet skin in small circles without pressing, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, then apply body cream straight away.

How many times a week should I scrub my body?

Once a week is enough; twice at most for normal skin. More often, scrubbing irritates. Skip it in the week you go to the hammam.

How do I do a body treatment at home?

Once a week, take your time: lukewarm shower, scrub, rinse, a generous layer of body cream, then foot cream or a foot mask. Allow a quarter of an hour.

What routine is recommended for dehydrated skin?

Short, lukewarm showers, shower cream rather than foaming gel, a scrub once a week at most, and a rich cream — or a lotion designed for very dry skin — every day right after the shower. Dry air and air conditioning dehydrate skin: don't skip it.

How can I smell good after a shower?

Pick a shower cream and body cream with a scent you like, then, if you wish, a body mist last, on dry skin. The Rituals mist suggested here is alcohol-free according to the brand; a mist with alcohol goes neither on the face nor right after a scrub.

This routine describes how each product is used; full ingredients and directions are on each product page. If your scalp or skin is irritated, ask a health professional before starting.
