In short

A hair care routine for dry and frizzy hair comes down to four steps, in this order: a gentle shampoo massaged into the scalp, conditioner on the lengths at every wash, an anti-frizz serum or leave-in on towel-dried hair, then heat protection before the hairdryer or straightener. Once or twice a week, add a mask, plus a pre-shampoo oil treatment if your ends are very dry. It suits dry, damaged or coloured hair.

Updated on 17 October 2026

Dry hair lacks lipids along the lengths: it turns rough and dull, tangles easily and frizzes as soon as the air is humid. In Morocco, sun, hard water and the heat of hairdryers and straighteners often make this dryness worse. This routine, designed by FromGermany.ma, puts the steps in the right order: wash gently, nourish at every wash, protect before heat and keep frizz down.

The core is four products from well-known brands that our customers in Morocco already order: the PANTENE PRO-V Repair & Care shampoo; the Balea PROFESSIONAL Oil Repair Intensiv conditioner, from the professional line of the German dm chain, designed for very dry and damaged hair according to the maker; the PANTENE PRO-V Argan Infused Oil against frizz; and the GARNIER FRUCTIS Diamond Sleek spray, which protects against heat up to 230 °C according to the maker. Most steps also offer a small-budget option. The mask, oil treatment and accessories are optional. For bleached hair, the Abbey Yung Method and its Plex Care range are a better fit. Delivery across Morocco in 18 to 20 days, cash on delivery.

Once a week

Applied to dry hair before washing, the oil coats the lengths during shampooing and makes detangling easier. Optional step, useful when your ends are very dry.

How to: Spread the oil over the lengths and ends, then comb it through. For the Dr. Scheller jojoba oil, the maker recommends 10 minutes on the scalp and hair, then a thorough rinse. For the Balea med option, the maker recommends 1–2 droppers and at least 10 minutes on the lengths; on the scalp, at least 1 hour, or overnight.

Dry and damaged hair routine: the steps in order

Order matters: wash the scalp, nourish the lengths, then protect them before heat. Here is the full wash day, to be lightened depending on your hair.

  • Optional, once a week: oil treatment on dry hair, at least 10 minutes before washing.
  • Gentle shampoo, massaged into the scalp only, with lukewarm water.
  • Conditioner on lengths and ends for 1–2 minutes; or a mask, 1–2 times a week.
  • Blot your hair in a soft towel or turban, without rubbing.
  • Leave-in or anti-frizz serum on towel-dried hair, avoiding the roots.
  • Heat protection, then drying on medium heat.
  • On non-wash days: a drop of oil on the ends, nothing more.

Dry, dehydrated or damaged hair: what's the difference?

Three words that are often confused, for three different needs. Many people have all three at once, especially with coloured, straightened and blow-dried lengths.

HairHow to recognise itRoutine priority
DryLack of lipids: rough, dull, soaks up products quickly and tangles at the ends.Conditioner at every wash, mask, oil on the ends.
DehydratedLack of water: loses suppleness and frizzes, sometimes with roots that get oily fast.Light leave-in care, lukewarm rather than hot water, no oil at the roots.
DamagedFibre weakened by heat, colouring, bleaching or straightening: split ends, breakage, hair that dries in minutes.Heat protection every time, a mask 1–2 times a week, regular trims.

Frizz: the habits that help

Dry hair swells as soon as the air is humid. That's why frizz is worse on the coast, in Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier or Agadir, than inland. Habits matter as much as products.

  • Apply serum or leave-in to towel-dried hair, not to hair that's already dry.
  • Blot, never rub; a microfibre turban or a cotton T-shirt does the job.
  • Point the hairdryer nozzle from roots to ends, on medium heat.
  • Stop touching or brushing hair once it's dry, especially if it's wavy or curly.
  • Sleep on a satin pillowcase, or put your lengths in a loose braid.
  • Curly hair is styled differently: see our curly hair routine.

Pre-shampoo oil treatment: how to do it

The oil treatment goes on dry hair: spread the oil over the lengths and ends, comb it through, then leave it on before washing. For the Dr. Scheller jojoba oil, the maker recommends 10 minutes on the scalp and hair, then a thorough rinse. For the Balea med oil, the small-budget option, the maker recommends at least 10 minutes on the lengths, and at least an hour, or overnight, on the scalp.

When washing, a double shampoo removes leftover oil, then carry on with the routine as usual. Once a week is enough. Pure argan oil, which many Moroccan households keep at home, can be used the same way.

  • How long? At least 10 minutes on the lengths, up to overnight on the scalp.
  • Dry or damp hair? Dry hair.
  • How often? Once a week.

The mistakes that dry out your hair

Before adding a product, it's better to stop what dries hair out. The most common mistakes:

  • Washing your hair with very hot water.
  • Scrubbing shampoo into the lengths instead of massaging the scalp.
  • Skipping conditioner because you're in a hurry.
  • Rubbing your hair with a towel.
  • Using a straightener on damp hair, or without heat protection.
  • Brushing dry hair hard, top to bottom, through knots.
  • Tying hair tightly, or with elastics that have metal parts.
  • Putting off trims: a split end doesn't mend, only cutting removes it.

Dry hair in Morocco: sun, hard water and heat styling

The Moroccan sun is strong all year round, not just at the beach in summer. A hat or scarf protects the lengths during long exposure; after the sea or the pool, a fresh-water rinse followed by conditioner stops salt or chlorine from drying on your hair.

Tap water is often hard: limescale leaves a film that makes the lengths rough and dull. Once every two to four weeks, a clarifying shampoo removes this build-up (see the Abbey Yung Method); for dry hair, no more often than that.

Finally, the climate changes from city to city: the dry air inland (Marrakech, Fez, Ouarzazate) dries out the lengths, while coastal humidity causes frizz. Blow-drying, straighteners and hammam steam all add heat: use heat protection every time, and let a mask sit during the hammam.

Dry and curly, fine or men's hair: the variations

The same base adapts to each hair type:

  • Dry and curly or wavy: a sulphate-free shampoo (the Balea Natural Beauty alternative), no brushing when dry, and a styling cream or gel instead of the serum. Everything is in the curly hair routine.
  • Dry and fine: the leave-in spray rather than a rich mask, oil on the ends only, nothing at the roots.
  • Men, short hair: shampoo and conditioner are often enough; a little serum if hair frizzes, and heat protection when using a hairdryer.
  • Coloured or bleached: the same routine, heat protection every time; for bleached hair, the Plex Care range of the Abbey Yung Method.
  • Children: a gentle shampoo and a detangling conditioner are enough; no heat tools.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best routine for dry hair?

A simple routine done at every wash: gentle shampoo on the scalp, conditioner on the lengths, anti-frizz serum or leave-in on towel-dried hair, then heat protection. A mask once or twice a week and a weekly oil treatment complete it if your ends stay dry. In this routine: PANTENE PRO-V Repair & Care to wash, the Balea PROFESSIONAL Oil Repair Intensiv conditioner, PANTENE Argan Infused Oil against frizz and the GARNIER FRUCTIS Diamond Sleek spray before heat.

What helps dry, frizzy hair?

Nourish and protect at the same time: conditioner at every wash, anti-frizz serum on towel-dried hair, blotting instead of rubbing, and drying with the nozzle pointing towards the ends. On the humid coast, these habits matter as much as the product you choose.

What is the fastest way to moisturise dry hair?

A conditioner or mask left on for a few minutes, then a leave-in on towel-dried hair, from the very next wash. Between washes, a drop of oil on the ends is enough; no need to re-wet your hair.

What order should I wash my hair in?

Optional oil treatment on dry hair, shampoo on the scalp, conditioner or mask on the lengths, rinse, blot without rubbing, leave-in or serum, heat protection, then dry.

How long should I leave an oil treatment on, and can I leave it overnight?

It depends on the oil. For the Dr. Scheller jojoba oil in this routine, the maker recommends 10 minutes on the scalp and hair. For the Balea med oil, the small-budget option, the maker recommends at least 10 minutes on the lengths and at least an hour, or overnight, on the scalp. Apply the oil treatment to dry hair, then a double shampoo removes the oil.

How many times a week should I wash dry hair?

As often as your scalp needs, often 2–3 times a week. It's not the number of washes that dries hair out, but very hot water, scrubbing shampoo into the lengths and skipping conditioner.

Can split ends be repaired?

No: a split end doesn't mend, and only cutting removes it. Care products make the ends softer and easier to detangle, which reduces snagging, but regular trims remain essential for damaged hair.

What daily routine suits dry, frizzy hair?

On non-wash days, you barely need products: a drop of oil or serum on the ends, hands off once your hair is styled, and a loose braid at night. The real work happens on wash day.

This routine describes how each product is used; full ingredients and directions are on each product page. If your scalp or skin is irritated, ask a health professional before starting.
