In short

A curly hair routine follows this order: gentle shampoo on the scalp, conditioner to detangle in the shower, leave-in on soaking-wet hair, gel to define (with a richer cream first if your curls are dry or tight), then air-drying or diffusing without touching the curls. On days two and three a refresh spray replaces washing, and a weekly mask nourishes the lengths. It suits wavy hair (2A–2C) in a lighter version, curly hair (3A–3C) and, with richer textures, coily and kinky hair (4A–4C).

Updated on 17 October 2026

A routine designed by FromGermany.ma for curly hair, with no creator's method behind it: the common ground of most guides, cut down to four products. The principle fits in three words: hydrate, define, hands off. Wash gently, detangle only when hair is wet and full of conditioner, apply stylers to soaking-wet hair, then let the curls dry undisturbed.

The four essentials: the BALI CURLS gentle shampoo, leave-in cream and gel, a range designed for curly and wavy hair, plus the Balea PROFESSIONAL curl conditioner. For another curl type or budget, the steps offer GARNIER FRUCTIS curl method, cantu or got2b alternatives, and budget options from alverde NATURKOSMETIK or Balea. Following the Curly Girl Method, which is stricter about ingredients? It has its own page on FromGermany.ma.

In Morocco, three things change the picture: tap water that is often hard, the dry heat inland and the humidity on the coast. A section further down explains what to adjust in each case.

When
At the start of wash day, on thoroughly wet hair
How often
1–3 times a week, depending on your scalp

Cleanse the scalp without stripping the lengths, which dry out quickly on curly hair. Massage shampoo into the scalp; the lather that runs down is enough for the lengths.

How to: Lukewarm water and fingertips: don't pile up and rub the lengths on top of your head, that's how knots form. Once every 2–4 weeks, the clarifying shampoo replaces the gentle one.

The curly hair routine, in order

The order follows a simple logic: cleanse, soften, hydrate, then set the shape, always on wet hair and from the lightest product to the thickest. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for wash day, not counting air-drying.

The day-two refresh is part of the routine: it's what lets you space out washes. In the morning, a few sprays of refresher and a scrunch in your hands revive curls flattened overnight. On day three or four, when your scalp needs it, it's wash day again.

This routine accepts any product. If you follow the Curly Girl Method, which rules out certain ingredients, our page "Curly Girl Method with dm products" covers its rules and selection. Here, none of the four essentials lists a silicone among its ingredients; among the options, the Balea PROFESSIONAL styling cream contains silicones and the GARNIER FRUCTIS Flexi Hold gel contains a sulphate (sodium lauryl sulfate).

  • 1. Gentle shampoo, massaged into the scalp.
  • 2. Conditioner on the lengths, detangled with fingers or a wide-tooth comb, in the shower.
  • 3. Once a week: mask instead of conditioner.
  • 4. Leave-in cream on soaking-wet hair.
  • 5. Rich cream if your curls are dry or tight, then gel, scrunched upwards.
  • 6. Hands-off drying, air or diffuser; soften the gel once dry.
  • 7. Days two and three: refresh spray, then a new wash day.

Table: curl types (2A to 4C) and products

The number describes the shape: 2 for S-shaped waves, 3 for spiral curls, 4 for very tight, zigzag coils. The letter runs from loosest (A) to tightest (C). Many heads mix two or three types: follow the row for most of your curls, then adjust to how dry your lengths are.

Curl typeNeedsSteps and products to favour
2A to 2C: wavyLightness, root volume, frizzConditioner on the ends only, a tiny amount of leave-in cream, a light-hold gel (GARNIER FRUCTIS Flexi Hold). No rich cream.
3A and 3B: curlyMoisture and definitionFull routine: BALI CURLS Hydrating cream as a leave-in, then BALI CURLS Strong Hold gel. A Balea PROFESSIONAL mask if the ends are dry.
3C: tight curlsMoisture, frizz, detanglingGenerous leave-in, a rich cream (cantu or got2b Curlz) then gel, a weekly mask, comb-detangling under conditioner.
4A and 4B: coilyNourishment, gentle detangling, low manipulationFewer washes, the large Balea curl conditioner, cantu curl activator cream then gel, a weekly mask, a satin bonnet at night.
4C: kinkyMaximum nourishment, holding moistureWash once a week, mask, leave-in then cantu cream in layers, air-dry, a satin bonnet at night.

Wavy hair: the lighter version

Wavy hair (2A–2C) gets weighed down quickly: keep the same routine with less product at each step. Conditioner goes on the ends only, leave-in cream in a tiny amount, or none at all on fine hair, and a light-hold gel such as GARNIER FRUCTIS Flexi Hold is enough, without a rich cream. A defining spray, such as the Balea PROFESSIONAL one its maker intends for long, wavy hair, or the BALI CURLS Volume Foam, silicone-free according to the maker, are other light options.

Useful habits: scrunch gel upwards into soaking-wet hair, diffuse on low speed with your head tilted for volume, and wash as often as your scalp needs, often more than with tight curls. On thick or dry wavy hair, the BALI CURLS Hydrating cream, or the alverde balm on a budget, earns its place again as a leave-in.

Coily and kinky hair

Coily and kinky hair (4A–4C) is the driest and the most fragile to detangle. The routine keeps the same order with three changes: wash less often, about once a week; detangle only under conditioner, in sections, from ends to roots; and layer products from thinnest to thickest, leave-in, rich cream, then gel if you want defined coils.

Products: the large Balea curl conditioner, which its maker also intends for type 3 and 4 curls, the cantu curl activator cream with shea butter, a weekly mask and a drop of oil on the ends. Between washes, low-manipulation styles such as braids or twists, plus a satin bonnet at night like the cantu one, help keep shape and moisture.

Curly hair in Morocco: hard water, heat and coastal humidity

Tap water is often hard. Its deposits, together with styling residue, can leave curls dull and rough. Once every 2–4 weeks, swap the gentle shampoo for a clarifying one, always followed by conditioner or a mask.

Inland, in Marrakech or Fez, heat and dry air quickly parch the lengths: lean on leave-in, cream and a weekly mask, and shield your hair from strong sun with a hat or scarf. At the hammam, keep conditioner or a mask on the lengths during the session, then do the styling routine at home.

On the coast, in Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier or Agadir, humidity is what puffs curls up and brings out frizz. Gel becomes the key step: a strong-hold gel such as BALI CURLS Strong Hold, applied to soaking-wet hair in a generous amount, then dried hands-off, holds the curl shape. When refreshing, dampen lightly: too much water brings the frizz back.

The products in this routine are delivered across Morocco in 18 to 20 days, cash on delivery: order the next bottle before the first one runs out.

For children and men

Children: three steps are enough. A gentle shampoo, detangling on wet hair with conditioner or a children's detangling spray such as Balea Happy Berry, then a little leave-in. No gel needed, and always check the age recommended by the manufacturer.

Men: on short hair, gentle shampoo, conditioner, then a small amount of cream or gel scrunched into wet hair, and air-dry. The same products work in smaller amounts; the refresh spray brings the curls back the next day.

Frequently asked questions

What order should a curly hair routine follow?

Gentle shampoo, conditioner with detangling in the shower, leave-in, a rich cream if needed then gel, hands-off drying. Once a week a mask replaces the conditioner; on days two and three a refresh spray is enough. Layer products from the thinnest to the thickest, always on wet hair.

How do I look after curly hair every day?

Without washing it again. In the morning, mist a refresh spray section by section, scrunch the curls in your hands and reshape any that have moved with a little gel. At night, pile your hair loosely on top of your head or sleep in a satin bonnet. Avoid brushing dry curls.

What should I put on curly hair after the shower?

While it's still soaking wet: a leave-in, then a richer cream if your curls are dry, then gel last. Then squeeze the water out by pressing the curls into a microfibre towel or cotton T-shirt, without rubbing, and air-dry or diffuse.

How often should curly hair be washed?

Usually two to three times a week for wavy or curly hair, and about once a week for coily or kinky hair. Your scalp sets the pace: wash when it needs it, and refresh the lengths between washes.

What is the best care for curly hair?

A leave-in, because it stays on the hair until the next wash, plus a weekly mask. The right texture mostly depends on porosity: low-porosity hair, where water beads up and drying is slow, prefers light products in small amounts; high-porosity hair, which soaks up water and dries fast, can take richer creams and a regular mask.

What are the best products for curly hair in Morocco?

There is no one-size-fits-all product: you need a gentle shampoo, a conditioner, a leave-in and a gel suited to your curl type. Our selection relies on BALI CURLS for the shampoo, cream and gel, on the Balea PROFESSIONAL curl conditioner and, as an alternative, on the GARNIER FRUCTIS curl method range; cantu and got2b round it out for tight curls, alverde and Balea for a small budget. LANGHAARMÄDCHEN, AUSSIE, HASK and John Frieda also have their curl ranges on FromGermany.ma, delivered across Morocco in 18 to 20 days, cash on delivery.

What routine suits a child's curly hair?

A short version: gentle shampoo once or twice a week, conditioner or detangling spray, detangling only on wet hair with a wide-tooth comb, then a little leave-in. Gel isn't needed. Prefer products made for children and follow the age guidance given by the manufacturer.

What routine suits men with curly hair?

The same logic, faster: gentle shampoo, conditioner, then a small amount of cream or gel scrunched into wet hair, and air-dry. On short hair a leave-in alone can be enough; a refresh spray brings the curls back the next day.

This routine describes how each product is used; full ingredients and directions are on each product page. If your scalp or skin is irritated, ask a health professional before starting.
