In short

A hair care routine for men comes down to three steps: a shampoo suited to your scalp (with caffeine if you like, left on for 2 minutes as the maker advises), a light conditioner on the lengths if your hair is more than a few centimetres long, then a styling product on dry or slightly damp hair. For the beard: wash it every day with a dedicated cleanser, apply a few drops of oil or a little balm, then comb it. In the morning, a moisturiser and SPF 50 on the areas the beard doesn't cover. For normal or oily hair, short or medium length.

Updated on 17 October 2026

FromGermany.ma designed this routine for men who want a simple bathroom shelf: a shampoo, a cleanser and an oil for the beard, a styling product. Those four products are the core; conditioner, comb, moisturiser and sunscreen are added depending on hair length, beard length and how much time you spend outdoors. The steps follow the real order: in the shower first, then at the mirror.

The products were chosen from what our customers in Morocco search for and order: Alpecin, the most searched-for caffeine shampoo on our site, BALI GENTS Matt Paste, one of our most ordered men's styling products, and the King C. Gillette beard range. For a tighter budget, each core product has a Balea MEN or alverde MEN alternative, also bought off the dm shelf in Germany.

In Morocco, heat and sport make the scalp sweat, the sun is strong on the face all year round and tap water is often hard: the routine takes this into account, step by step. Delivery in 18 to 20 days anywhere in Morocco, cash on delivery.

Shampoo cleans the scalp: sebum, sweat, dust and leftover styling product. With short hair, it's mainly the scalp you wash; the lengths get clean as you rinse. Alpecin's C1 is a silicone-free caffeine shampoo that the maker intends for daily use, with a contact time of at least 2 minutes.

How to: A hazelnut-sized amount is enough for short hair. Massage with your fingertips, not your nails, then leave it on for 2 minutes, as the maker advises: that's the moment to wash your beard (next step). Then rinse everything off thoroughly.

Hair care routine for men: the steps in order

A men's hair routine doesn't need ten products. On short or medium-length hair, four steps are enough, always in the same order. How often you shampoo depends on your scalp, the heat and sport.

  • Shampoo on the scalp, massaged in with your fingertips; 2 minutes on for a caffeine shampoo, according to the maker, then rinse.
  • Conditioner on the lengths, if your hair is more than a few centimetres long, then a thorough rinse.
  • Pat dry with the towel, without rubbing.
  • Styling product on dry or slightly damp hair: a small amount, warmed between your palms.

Beard care routine: wash, nourish, groom

A beard is looked after like hair sitting on facial skin: both need attention. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests washing face and beard every day with a gentle cleanser rather than ordinary soap, moisturising right afterwards, then combing to spread the product. That is exactly this routine's order: cleansing gel in the shower, oil as you step out, then the comb.

For trimming, nothing replaces the barber; between visits, scissors are enough for stray hairs. Oil and balm are dosed according to beard length:

BeardWashNourish and groom
StubbleBeard and face cleansing gel, dailyA moisturiser with SPF in the morning (Balea MEN Active Care SPF 30); two drops of oil if it itches; no comb needed
Short (up to 2 cm)DailyThree to four drops of King C. Gillette oil, then the fine-toothed comb
LongDaily, rinsing for longerFive drops of oil or more, or King C. Gillette balm; wide-toothed comb, scissors to tidy up

Caffeine shampoo: how to use it

A caffeine shampoo is used like any other shampoo, with one difference: the contact time. Alpecin says to apply C1 to scalp and hair, leave it on for at least 2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly, and intends it for daily use. The simplest way: apply it as you step into the shower, wash your beard while it sits, then rinse everything off.

Alpecin in Morocco: several of the brand's shampoos are available on FromGermany.ma, bought off the dm shelf in Germany, with the price shown on each product page and cash on delivery. They differ mainly by the scalp the maker intends them for.

If hair loss worries you, see a doctor or a dermatologist: a shampoo is a hygiene product, not a treatment.

Curly hair or a fade: the variations

Curly hair routine for men: curls don't take well to daily shampooing. Wash them once or twice a week with a gentle shampoo — Weleda's rosemary one works —, keep conditioner at every wash, then swap the matte paste for a curl cream or gel scrunched into still-wet hair, and let it air-dry. The beard follows the same routine. All the details are in our curly hair routine.

Fade: with very short sides, the scalp stays visible. Shampoo can be daily; styling product goes on the top only — matte paste for texture, gel for a slicked look. The sides catch the sun: a little sun fluid or a cap in summer. Plan a trip to the barber every two to three weeks to keep the lines sharp.

Medium to long hair: conditioner becomes essential, and the comb works on the hair too, on wet hair, starting from the ends.

Men's routine in Morocco: sun, heat, sport

Morocco's climate mainly changes three things in the routine: how often you wash, sun protection and how well styling holds.

  • Sport and heat: a sweaty scalp needs washing more often; a shampoo made for daily use, like C1, allows it. Rinse your beard too after the gym.
  • Sun: forehead, nose, back of the neck, ears and a shaved head catch the sun all year round. SPF 50 in the morning, reapplied if you stay outdoors.
  • Hard water: tap water is often hard; rinse shampoo and cleanser for longer, then the oil softens beard hair, according to the makers.
  • Hammam: wash your beard at the end of the session with lukewarm water, and apply the oil as you leave, on clean hair.
  • Heat and wind: a light mist of taft POWER INVISIBLE hairspray, designed to hold despite humidity and wind according to the maker, keeps your style in place.
  • Ordering: delivery in 18 to 20 days anywhere in Morocco and cash on delivery; reorder before the bottle runs out.

Common mistakes

Most slip-ups come from small habits that are easy to fix:

  • Washing your beard with ordinary soap: use a cleanser made for beard and face.
  • Rinsing a caffeine shampoo straight away: the maker specifies 2 minutes of contact time.
  • Putting conditioner on the scalp: it belongs on the lengths.
  • Too much beard oil: a few drops are enough; any more and the beard looks greasy.
  • Too much styling product at once: start with a pea-sized amount and add more if needed.
  • Touching your beard all day: your hands leave dust and germs on it.
  • Skipping SPF because you have a beard: forehead, nose, upper cheeks and the back of the neck stay exposed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best hair care routine for men?

The one you keep up every day: a shampoo suited to your scalp, a light conditioner if your hair is more than a few centimetres long, then a styling product. With a beard, add a dedicated cleanser, a few drops of oil and a comb.

What are the steps of a men's hair routine?

Shampoo on the scalp, conditioner on the lengths, rinse, pat dry, then styling product on dry or slightly damp hair. With a beard: wash it in the shower while the shampoo sits, then oil and comb as you step out.

How many times a week should a man wash his hair?

It depends on your scalp: daily if it gets oily quickly, after sport or in strong heat; otherwise every other day. Curly hair is better washed once or twice a week. A shampoo made for daily use, like Alpecin C1, allows washing every day.

How do you use a caffeine shampoo like Alpecin?

On wet hair, apply it to the scalp, massage with your fingertips, leave it on for at least 2 minutes as Alpecin advises, then rinse thoroughly. The maker intends it for daily use. Use the waiting time to wash your beard.

What is a good beard care routine?

Three steps: wash beard and face every day with a dedicated cleanser, apply a few drops of oil or a little balm to a dry or slightly damp beard, then comb in the direction of the hairs. With stubble, add a cream with SPF in the morning.

Beard oil or beard balm: which should I choose?

Oil for a short or medium beard: it's light and absorbs quickly. Balm, which is thicker, for a long or unruly beard: it softens it and helps it keep its shape. You can also use oil in the morning and balm at night.

What routine suits men with curly hair?

A gentle shampoo once or twice a week, conditioner at every wash, then a curl cream or gel on wet hair, and air-dry. Daily shampooing and matte paste don't suit curls well. The details are in our curly hair routine.
