In short

A morning and night skincare routine rests on three steps. Morning: a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser, then SPF 50 sunscreen last. Night: remove make-up if needed, cleanse, then apply a night cream. A serum fits between cleansing and cream. For normal, dry, dehydrated or combination skin.

Updated on 17 October 2026

FromGermany.ma designed this morning and night skincare routine around one simple idea: few products, used every day and in the right order, from the thinnest texture to the thickest. It follows the logic shared by every face-care guide β€” cleanse, moisturise, protect β€” with well-known brands bought in Germany: Weleda for cleansing and creams, The Ordinary for serums, SUNDANCE for sun protection, and Balea when budget matters.

In Morocco, two things weigh on the skin: strong sun for much of the year, and the dry air inland or from air conditioning, which dehydrates it. Hence sunscreen every morning, even in winter, and moisturising morning and night. The core is four products; serum, make-up remover and eye care are added depending on your skin and your time.

The morning cleanse removes overnight sebum and leftover night cream, so the next products go onto clean skin. A gentle foam is enough: there is no need to strip the skin.

How to: A small amount of foam on damp skin, a few seconds of massage, a rinse with lukewarm β€” not hot β€” water, then pat dry with a clean towel, without rubbing.

Morning routine: cleanse, moisturise, protect

In the morning, skin doesn't need a deep cleanse: above all it needs preparing for the day. Three steps are enough, in about five minutes. Serum goes between the first two if your skin feels tight.

  • A gentle cleanser, rinsed with lukewarm water.
  • Optional: a hyaluronic acid serum, then eye care.
  • A light moisturiser on face and neck.
  • SPF 50 sunscreen, always last.

Night routine: cleanse and nourish

At night, the priority changes: remove what the day has left β€” sunscreen, make-up, dust β€” then apply a night cream, with no sunscreen. If you wear water-resistant SPF every day, double cleansing (cleansing milk, then foam) is the simplest way to remove everything without rubbing.

There's no need to pile on products: cleanse, a serum if you like, then night cream just before bed. Five minutes is enough.

In what order should you apply skincare?

The rule fits in one sentence: thinnest to thickest, with sunscreen always last in the morning. A light texture spreads poorly over a thick cream; sunscreen must form an even layer over everything else. Allow a minute or two between cream and sunscreen.

OrderTextureWhy in this place
1. Make-up remover (night)Milk, rinsed off, or no-rinse micellar waterRemoves sunscreen and make-up before the cleanser.
2. CleanserFoam, rinsed offLeaves skin clean for the next products.
3. SerumVery fluidThe lightest goes first, on clean skin.
4. Eye areaLight serum or gelA delicate area face creams avoid: it has its own product.
5. Day or night creamGel cream or creamThicker, it goes on top and holds in moisture.
6. Sunscreen (morning)FluidAlways last, in an even layer; make-up comes after.

Dry, dehydrated or combination skin: what to change

Dry skin lacks lipids: it feels rough and tight all the time. Dehydrated skin lacks water: it feels tight mostly after rinsing or with air conditioning, and can shine in places, like combination skin. The basic routine suits all three; only a few products change.

  • Dry skin: keep Skin Food at night and the serum morning and night; if the gel cream isn't enough in the morning, switch to the richer Skin Food Light.
  • Dehydrated skin: the hyaluronic acid serum becomes the step not to skip, morning and night; avoid very hot water on the face.
  • Combination skin: the Weleda gel cream morning and night (the maker intends it for both) instead of Skin Food; the "oil control" sun fluid if forehead and nose shine; and, on some nights, The Ordinary's Niacinamide serum.
  • If your skin feels tight after every rinse (tap water is often hard in Morocco), Balea micellar water, which needs no rinsing according to the maker, can replace the foam on some evenings; Neutrogena's alcohol-free Hydro Boost gel is another option.

Sun protection in Morocco, all year round

The World Health Organization recommends sun protection once the UV index reaches 3. In Morocco that threshold is far exceeded in spring and summer, and midday averages stay around 3 to 5 in December and January in both Casablanca and Marrakech. Altitude, the beach and the desert increase exposure further.

Hence the rule: sunscreen every morning, as the last step, whatever the season. Outdoors, reapply roughly every two hours, and after swimming or sweating. Shade, a hat and sunglasses remain the first line of protection; cream covers what clothing leaves exposed.

At night, water-resistant SPF comes off best in two stages: cleansing milk (or micellar water), then foam.

Men's version

A men's face hydration routine follows the same steps: cleanse, moisturise and protect in the morning; cleanse and moisturise at night. The products chosen are unisex. Short version: the cleanser, the Weleda gel cream, which the maker intends for morning and night β€” so it can replace both day and night cream β€” and sunscreen in the morning. Sensitive skin: Neutrogena's Hydro Boost cleansing gel, alcohol-free and suitable for sensitive skin according to the maker.

After shaving, apply the cream to rinsed, dried skin. If your skin gets shiny during the day, go for the matte-finish "oil control" sun fluid.

Frequently asked questions

What are the steps of a face care routine?

Morning: cleanse, moisturise, then protect from the sun. Night: remove make-up if needed, cleanse, then apply a night cream. A serum can be added before the cream, morning and night.

In what order should I apply face care products?

Thinnest to thickest: cleanser, serum, eye care, cream, then sunscreen last in the morning. At night, the make-up remover (milk or micellar water) comes before the cleanser.

What is the night-time face care routine?

Remove sunscreen and make-up with cleansing milk or micellar water, cleanse with a gentle cleanser, add a serum if you like, then a night cream. No sunscreen at night.

What is the most effective morning routine?

The one you keep up every day: a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser and SPF 50 sunscreen, in that order. Five minutes is enough; add a serum if your skin feels tight.

What is the simplest face care routine?

Four products: a gentle cleanser morning and night, a moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning, a night cream at night. Five minutes morning and night, nothing more.

How do I build my skincare routine?

Start from your skin type (dry, dehydrated, combination), set up the basics first β€” cleanse, moisturise, protect β€” then add one product at a time, a serum for example, watching how your skin responds for a few weeks before adding another.

What's the best way to hydrate your face?

Apply a moisturiser morning and night on clean skin, add a hyaluronic acid serum if your skin feels tight, and avoid very hot water when rinsing. Dry air and air conditioning dehydrate the skin: that's when a serum helps most.

Do I need sunscreen every day in Morocco?

Yes. The WHO recommends sun protection once the UV index reaches 3, a level often reached at midday in Morocco, even in winter. SPF 50 as the last morning step, reapplied if you stay outdoors.

This routine describes how each product is used; full ingredients and directions are on each product page. If your scalp or skin is irritated, ask a health professional before starting.
