Recognising (properly) dry skin
Tightness after showering, rough patches, a complexion that lacks radiance, discomfort in wind or air conditioning: dry skin lacks lipids. Not to be confused with dehydrated skin (which lacks water, even when oily). The two are treated differently — and German brands excel at both.
The facial routine
1. Gentle cleansing: milk or balm rather than a foaming gel — at Balea, the cream/oil lines are made for dry skin. 2. Hydrating serum: hyaluronic acid draws in water; on dry skin it then needs sealing with… 3. …a rich cream: shea butter, plant oils, ceramides. The alverde ranges offer excellent nourishing natural textures. 4. At night: a more occlusive cream or a few drops of facial oil.
The body: the Weleda school
For the body, Weleda is a world reference for dry skin: the legendary Skin Food, the body oils and the nourishing lotions are among the most respected products in natural cosmetics. Top up with Balea body butters and hand creams for everyday use.
The habits that change everything
- Lukewarm, short showers (hot water strips lipids).
- Body cream on still-damp skin: the moisture is sealed in better.
- Hand cream after every wash in winter.
- Sun protection even in cold weather — the sun care aisle runs all year.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin? Dry skin lacks oil (a lasting state, often constitutional); dehydrated skin lacks water (a temporary state, any skin type). A hydrating serum for the latter, rich nourishment for the former — often both together.
Are natural products better for dry skin? Plant oils and butters (shea, almond, argan) are excellent nourishers; what matters is the overall formula and your own tolerance.
How do I get these products in Morocco? Delivery starts at 19 DH depending on your city (free from 500 DH), takes around 15 days, with cash on delivery and returns possible within 7 days.
